About Us

The Denville Township School District

The Denville Township Public School district is comprised of Lakeview and Riverview K-5 elementary schools, and Valleyview Middle School. Annually, our students, using multiple measures, perform well above the State and national norms. Our curriculum is revised consistently, with significant staff input, to meet all State standards, and the program is expanded to meet emerging teaching methodology.

Our dedicated staff continues to improve their pedagogy through workshops and in-service programs to support these initiatives. The district offers a rich and persified curriculum, with numerous opportunities for students to do advanced work, refine technology skills, develop inpidual talents in the fine and performing arts, and to develop the attributes of emotional intelligence through special programs offered in conjunction with the basic curriculum.

This year the district continues to implement a problem based and research centered approach to instruction that has successfully incorporated laptop and smart board technology to differentiate instruction. Staff development in this area is on going throughout the year, and action plans are in place for intensive staff training over the next several years to make problem based and research based instruction the central theme for the district.

The Board of Education is keenly aware that the district needs to continue to support staff and provide the resources necessary to develop this instructional model. Consistent with this theme, the Board of Education created a Long Range Educational Planning Committee, charged to review all the existing programs and practices of the district and recommend needed changes and improvements to the Board. In addition to a thorough review of all curriculum areas, the Committee, comprised of 54 members of the Denville community, and several administrators and Board members, conducted a community survey and a detailed demographic study in preparation for recommendations for needed facility improvement. The work of the Denville Long Range Educational Planning Committee was completed, written and reported to the Board of Education in December of 2006. The Board plans to use the information gathered by the Committee to prepare the 2007-2008 Budget and begin the task of bringing a school facilities plan to referendum.

Our schools maintain a positive and productive relationship with parents and the community at large. Weekly communications with parents make note of school events, as well as the emerging practices of the district. Parents are active in the schools and enrich the opportunities for children through their support for and attendance at school events. An active PTA leadership and special education parents group, SPARK, work with the staff to continue the district's tradition of academic excellence. The Board of Education, staff and the parent community works diligently to ensure that our students prepare for a complex future, are emotionally intelligent, and become life long learners.
